Anna Pyles
My name is Anna Pyles, and I am pursuing an M.Ed. in English Education. I have had the privilege of working with students of diverse backgrounds and am currently teaching in Houston, Texas, where I reside. I am excited to learn more about integrating technology in the classroom. My interests outside of teaching include cooking and spending time with family.
ISTE Standard Learning Activity
Digital Citizen indicator 2b asks students to demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the rights and obligations of using and sharing intellectual property. Students in a 12th grade English class could address the English Language Arts and Reading Standard 11 (H) Inquiry and Research: Display academic citations, including for paraphrased and quoted text, and use source materials ethically to avoid plagiarism by citing sources under the “fair use” rule of copywrite law. Students will research various topics on the internet to compose an essay and keep a record of the websites that they use. Students will work in pairs to review each other’s research for credibility and accuracy in addition to checking that they have adhered to crediting the author’s work by including citations.
The Research Paper will allow opportunities for interaction between learners. Students will use their devices to research topics to write about to enhance their understanding of a particular issue. Once they have composed their writing, they will engage in peer review and provide suggestions for editing and correcting their work. Students will develop skills that extend beyond the classroom by practicing accountability and avoiding plagiarism.
